Necrons

With the launch of INDOMITUS in 2020, it gave me an excellent opportunity to dive back into building a Necron army after over 15 years. And an opportunity to being my excitement for conversions to an army, to see what I could do. I added capes, reposed most of the models, and removed their mouths. I also developed by own colour scheme based on some painting guides.

Illuminor Szeras

Illuminor Szeras was by far my favorite model from the new range to work on. He just has a really cool design to him, but I knew I wanted to repose him from the original model. I found some concept artwork, that showed him with his hand and posture raised, rather then hunched over his victim. I decided to base my conversion around that concept art.

It involved cutting and adding pins to most joints, including his knees, shoulders and waist. It was an extensive amount of work, but very proud of the result.

Skorpekh Lord

The Skorpekh Lord is a cool model, but I decided he could do with a repose. I’ve modified the left arm and claw to be pointing/reaching. Extended the axe and positioned it so it’s resting on his shoulder (removing the third arm in the process). I’ve also swapped the head out for one of the Cryptothralls.

Royal Warden/Overlord

So my original plan was to make this guy more of an Overlord, and do something special with the Overlord model, unfortunately that project has not yet come to fruition.

I used the legs and body from the Royal Warden and the arms from the Overlord. The weapon’s blade comes from the Plasmancer (but the pole is still from the Overlord). With the head coming from the other Cryptothrall. And of course swapping the plated cape for a cloth one.

Skorpekh Destroyers

These guys were fun to work with, as I wanted to make each one unique. The first one even though he’s using the normal weapons, it still was a swap and repose. The second one uses the blades from the Cryptothralls (and an extra spike) to make the clawed hands. And the third one gets the guns from the Skorpekh Lord and the Royal Warden.

Plasmancer

The Plasmancer was a bit more of a challenge, as I wanted to give him some legs rather than have him floating. So I grabbed the legs from the Overload (because I already had other plans…), a few random bits to make the scythe, and the cloak from a Carin Wraith. Also took away his chin because it looked dumb!

Cryptothralls

Well these guys had already been stripped for parts, so I had to figure out the best way to use them. The guns just came from the Warriors, the orb of the head was actually a piece cut off the Canoptek Reanimator, the side bits from the Crypothralls own plates added to the sides. And added a bit of a tail.

Canoptek Reanimator aka The Mantis

This was the most extensive conversion, or at least the most different from it’s original look. I wasn’t a huge fan of the style they originally had for it, blob on some tall legs. So the first thing I did was cut and reposition the legs to create a low wide base. With spare components from the Triarch Stalker and Doomsday Ark, I created an abdomen to attach to the back. And added some guns to the sides.
