Underworlds Warbands

I have thoroughly enjoyed converting many of the various warbands released for Warhammer Underworlds. It is an exciting and inspiring process that allows me to infuse my own vision and creativity into the warband, making them each very unique and special. For some warbands I have been inspired by the aesthetic and style and done an extra model for a bit of fun to expand the squad.

The Shadeborn

The Shadeborn are a warband of elves wreathed in shadows. I always enjoyed their design and decided to get the Warcry version of the squad as well so I could merge the two and get some unique models.

Normally some have flowing hair, but I wanted to keep with the hooded cloak theme, even sculpting some of my own hoods to get it to work. I also had the extra models so decided to make two of each character, so I could get some cool variety.

Skittershank’s Clawpack

This warband of Skaven was a much more subtle conversion. I also wanted them to have hoods and capes, so needed to add/sculpt some of those. The one with the gas mask normally has it sitting on his hip, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to actually use it as a mask.

I also got a Deathmaster to add an extra cool model to the squad. I wasn’t a huge fan of the way he was holding his sword, so I swapped it out for a custom made twin blade polearm.

Painted photos coming soon!

Kainan’s Reapers

The Ossiarch Bonereapers are a race of bone constructs forge by the bones of other creatures. I like elements of the design, but not all. For example I’m not a huge fan of the heads they normally have, so I swapped them out for some bird skulls I had available. As well as making the weapons look more rustic. I wanted to remove most of the armour plates so I could focus on the bone designs, so I took the shields away and gave two of them mutated bone arms.

For the leader, Kainan, I wanted to do something special and found a stream of blood I thought would look cool to have him drawing from some bodies. I really like the Diablo Necromancer vibe I get from him!

Gothizzar Harvester

Another of the Ossiarch Bonereapers models, but heavily converted. It was actually first one I had, and inspired a lot of the design elements I stuck with for the warband. I wanted a bone/blood golem, so I removed any extra bits like the armour plates and embedded skulls. Sculpting fleshy bits into the gaps left over.

The original model has some cool components, but also some that I think looked terrible, like the carriage on the back and the goblin at the front. So I removed those and found ways to cover up the gaps. I also extended the legs and made them larger (the thighs are actually extra upper arm pieces!) I had the scythes spare from an old Forge World Tyranid model and was playing Dead Space at the time, so was inspired by the Necromorphs.

I feel like this model is way better than the original and I’m proud of it!

Myari’s Purifiers

This warband was a simple but I feel very effective conversion. I was inspired by the extra model I converted (see the next post) to give them the vibe of the angels from Diablo. So I have them empty hoods instead of heads to make them look incorporeal. I also took off their backpacks and gave these antler/spike things almost like small wings of light, adding to the Diablo angel look.

The Light of Eltharion

I loved this model when I first saw it, and after seeing someone else do a conversion inspired by Malthael from Diablo, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. So I swapped his swords for some sickles, I had, and gave him a hood and the mini wings on his back. Once again a fairly simple conversion, but still very effective.

Ylthari’s Guardians

I liked the design of the Sylvaneth models, but got an extra set of Tree-Revenants to help with the conversion and create some unique models. I also had some heads left over from another project I thought would suit them very well.

The Dread Pageant

For this warband, I’d always wanted to do something with the Corvus Cabal models from Warcry, and saw it as an opportunity to create something cool. So using some base components from the original warband, I heavily leaned into Corus Cabal bits.

Painted photos coming soon!

Magore’s Fiends

So this warband was a bit different, I actually already had half the models mostly finished in my collection, and realised they’d work perfectly as way cooler proxies for the actual models. So getting an extra Slaughter Priest and unifying the bases, I made my own unique warband for Magore’s Fiends.
For Magore himself I created a display base that I could take him off to play the game with.

Steelheart’s Champions

I originally wasn’t going to do a conversion to these Stormcast Eternals, but then I thought… What if I Chaos-ified them? So after some head swaps, weapon changes, and extra spikes, I come up with these guys. I’m very pleased with the result and they were some of my favorite ones to work on.
